We Have Eggs - Thursday - Fry Out Of Eggs!

Excellent, they look the dogs danglies!!!!

Stupid question time......

How do you know the sex of your BN, or any Plec for that matter?

I would love to breed, but not sure if i have males of females!!!

EDIT: - Just looked at your previous thread, am i right in saying the males have the bristles and the femals don't? I hope so if thats the case i've manged to get a male and female from my LFS!!!!
Yep, you sex them based on bristles. :good:

As said above...... :shifty: ......males have longer bristles (and the longest tend to be branched/forked).....females can have bristles....but these tend to be much smaller and confined to the "cheeks". :good:

Hmmmm, one of the issues that my wife spotted yesterday afternoon, was that everytime the male BN was moving in and out of the jar he was wafting the odd BN fry out of the mouth....it was then getting caught in the bubble updraft of water and being whisked away for the Angel & other inhabitants to eat.

When I got home from work, I took the jar out complete with father and fry.......gradually acclimatised it to the water temp in there and placed it in.

10 mins later when I looked in all the fry were out and about in the fry tank..........I could only see a few (fry tank has java moss, small bits of wood, gravel etc, etc).

Am hoping to find some more tonight.

Sorry for the delay in replying..........lost my job at work....so have had other things on my mind for a couple of months....now back in full time work so can get my life back in order.

I was concerned that all the fry had been eaten as we just couldn't see them in the fry tank.....however, a week later we saw a couple....then some more. The father BN had moved them all to a crevice in some bog wood that we have in our fry tank.

We now have around 20-30 1.5 cm long BN fry, growing nicely in our fry tank.

Since then the parents have once more in the glass jar, but they weren't very successful and the eggs weren't attached to the inside of the jar very well...they all just wafted out around the tank and were picked off by the other inhabitants.

Glad you're back on track!

BTW - can I ask what camera you used for these pics? Any special lenses/lighting etc?

It is a simple Sony T10.......and it took a while to get the pics.....tried lots of different angles with/without flash etc....

...the angle was the important bit......that and using a prop/tripod.
