Wave Simulator?

Hey guys, I was just thinking and i was thinking about what if you were to make an aquarium with a beach on one side for little crabs and stuff . And then what if you had a wave simulator and had waves washing up on the beach? what a cool thought right? I thought it was cool enough to try to make. but how would you make a wave simulator? you guys got any ideas?
