hi, as you all probably know, im now the very proud new owner of a tetratec EX1200  , set it up no problems, but i am wondering, as it holds about 20 litres, should i leave this much out of the tank, or can i fill the tank up, just wondering as if the filter should for any reason decide to empty, i would rather it didnt go all over rhe floor :hyper:
but then saying that, the tank looks wrong with not enough water in there,so what do you do/reccomend??

thanks in advance
shelagh xxxx

you fil your tank up as normal if your filter decided to go wrong it will just pump out water as its the intake that draws in the water. It wouldnt pump it back into the tank. So are you re homing your fish then or just gonna wait for all hell to break loose?

you say that mark like you think i dont give a monkeys, :(
i am in the process of selling tanks to get a 6ft for them, hope this satisfies yor question

Shelagh, the filter will fill with water from the tank when you first start using it because it started out empty and canisters can have a large volume as you found out. Once everything is running right just fill the tank back up to normal levels. When you shut off the filter to do a change some of the water will be trapped in the filter and when you are done cleaning it you will again have a level drop in the tank as it refills. I just count that water as part of the water being changed that week and drian the additional that I want so that I can use my change water to rinse out the filter parts. The water that is lost to the filter will never come back into the tank so there's no need to run with a low water level.

Nice one :good: , I love my tetratec filters. They are literally silent :D and the EX1200 is a nice size.

I filled the tank back up after the priming with no concequences and I think your meant to :good:
