Water Test Results...

Hey guys,
Got my New API test kit today, carried out some tests:
PH: 8.2
Ammonia NH3/NH4: 0ppm
Nitrite N02-: 0ppm
Nitrate N03-: 0ppm

if your ph is 7.6, id do the high range ph test aswell.

i would be doing the ammonia test again just incase. ive never seen a result that clear, even for water that i know is perfect. im sure you alredy have, but check the instructions and the methods for testing, they are slightly different for a couple of the tests. nitrate is odd aswell, almost all tanks, and even tapwater, have some degree of nitrates in them. it can go up to 40ppm before its becomes a concern, heavily planted tanks will lower nitrates though.

test your tap water aswell.

I done the PH and Ammonia test again,
Ammonia still Clear (???)
And PH 8.2 is thi to high for my neons and how can PH be reduced?

not sure what to say about ammonia result, other than if everythings right you have very good water quality. how big is the tank and whats in ? plant and fish wise ? a large tank with few fish and lots of real plants might give results like yours.

as for your ph, using the high range kit has given you a closer reading to what you have. i dont know about ph values for certain fish, but if the ones you have are doing ok i wouldnt worry about it. dont mess with your ph, its apparantly very hard to do and get right. a stable ph is more important than the 'right' ph.

i think bogwood reduces ph, and if you leave it in the tank it would be a constant in your tank. test your tap water to see what the ph is for that and the other readings you can test for. leave the tap water out for a day though, as the ph may naturally drop, as it will have done in your tank.

With the ammonia tester are you using both bottles? mine is bottle 1 eight drops,then bottle 2 eight drops shake then leave...are yours the same?

And Moochy i have a 65 litre tank with 12 neons in it.
A 3 week old undergravel filter and a 1 day old Fluval 2 plus, hopefully in a few weeks the UGF will be replaced by the cycled fluval

All normal people have them!

With some of the testing, it is almost impossible to tell what the colour is in tube.
Use natural daylight where you can and avoid energy saving bulbs as they tend to throw the colour out, generally darker.

For posting photos of test results, try putting normal white printer paper against window and then test tubes and chart in front (in daylight of course!). Dont use the flash.

Clean the tubes and caps thoroughly as well and follow the timing instructions exactly. Nitrate bottle 2 requires vigourous agitation for the test to work properly.

we all make mistakes 0 is good

I`ll second the mistakes...I`ve made enough in the past Don`t often see Nitrates at 0.
