i got my water tested the other day and the Ph came out as 8... it ideally needs to be 7. what it the cheapest / safest way to lower to?

also my phosphate level was 4... the bloke at my lfs showed me some powdered stuff you put in a net then in your tank and the tub lasts about 4 or 6 months i think... but this was £30 -_- ... so again, what is the cheaper / safest way to sort this out? obviously it will have to be kept up all the time because the phosphate is in the water from my tap... the other alternative was an R/O unit which is a bit out of my price range.

cheers

I have the same problem. My pH is 8 and I have a base level of ammonia in my tap water. !!?

Is it possible for you to buy good prepared water from your local fish shop? I get a five gallon bucket for $3, I don't think that's too bad... Messing with your pH is tricky...
