Water Flow

Can anyone advise on best water flow for certain fish?
In not sure if my new powerhead is too fast for the fish I have. The new powerhead is a 6000L/H Dual Power head wave maker.
I have a few small fish like neon and black tetras and male guppies, the larger fish are 4 clown loaches, 2 tiger barbs and 2 honey gouramis. I suspect the smaller fish will struggle as it is fast.
My aquarium is 30 x 12 x 15. So about 17 gal (75L), and 7 live plants.
Running an external filter with UV, and an internal fluval u2, but the water flow is massively inadequate from these.

why are you running a 6000L/H powerheard in a 75L tank? The flow from the U2 and the external should be more than adequate. If the flow seems to have dropped, strip the filters down and make sure they are not blocked with gunk.

Also, those clown loaches need a much, much bigger tank.

By the way, the Tiger Barbs are notorious for getting agro at other fish when kept in small numbers.

Far too much flow for a tank that size. At most add the weakest Koralia Nano and you'd only really need that if you were doing a planted tank.

The gourami especially won't like that current. They prefer slower water so they can hang out near the surface and breathe.

Aren't the fish spinning around like they're inside a washing machine?

Yes, it was way too much so haven't used it, its new. It was obviously too much. I could regulate its output but prefer to buy something else that isn't 240V (doesn't sound safe) so I will look into the one you mentioned.

Already shopping about for a 4ft tank, as they are 2in now but like you say will need extra space. Filters are well maintained, but external doesn't give any flow from the spray bar really, and the U2 cant do anything about the dead spots on its maximum output setting. Not impressed with fluval filters at all to be honest.

even so turn the powerhead off so they dont all get sucked into the tank vortex that must be being created by that powerhead. 600l/h is what i would use if i was going to circulate the pacific, not a 75litre fish tank

I used it for about 5mins, like you say far too much. Plus its running of 240V, so I doubt its electrically safe

240V is what all fish tank stuff runs off, the internal filters, external filters, lighting, heating, aerators and anything else plugged into a socket will run off of 240V at 50-60Hz

can you change the external to an output nozzle instead of the spray bar? That would probably help.

Although the loaches do grow slowly, and a 4" will be great for them in the short term......they do get to one foot in size eventually, need to be in groups of 6+ and therefore need a larger tank than that. Worth thinking about if you are prepared to make that investment or to try and rehome them. Don't want to sound critical, just to let you know.
