Hello what is the best value for money water dechlorinator to use. At the minute I`m using Stress Coat and I find it expensive, but if its the best at doing the job I`ll buy more of it. Is there any cheaper that still does the same job as Stress Coat.

Thanks for any help

One of the best aquarium dechlorinators in terms of value for money is seachem prime, alternatively you could use a decent pond dechlorinator.

Prime is also meant to be one of the best quality wise.

I think you will find that everyone has there favourite I use Seachem prime which I changed to from Tetra aqua safe as it is more concentrated than the aqua safe, so I use less so it costs less :good: .

Some people when doing around a 25 to 30% water change do not use any, I think  I understand the reasoning behind this practice but personally I do not feel happy doing it at the moment so dose as recommended with a dechlorinate maybe one day I will evolve to this pratice? But hey everyone is entitled to do what they feel is the best for there fish :good:

Others use pond dechlorinate as it is extremely concentrated and gives you very good value for money, there are lots of posts on these practises on here you just need to do a search for them.

An interesting article on dechlorinate brands: http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/rev-cond.htm

Of course the other way of cutting costs is to find the most competitive price for your favourite brand which is almost always found on line with a little investigation, I have found buying the larger containers is cheaper and I personally always buy when I am ordering other bits and peace's like food and hardware to save on postage as some places offer free P&P with orders over a certain price.

I hope this helps a bit regards onebto.

Prime, seems to be the most cost effective.

I only use it for it ability to bind heavy metals. i used nothing for several years. as, for 20-30% changes, its not needed. (chlorine wise)

With Prime right, if I'm dosing 60L.....that works out at about 1.5ml I need to add doesn't it? I've been doing a double dose so far so have been adding 3ml.

My recommendation to beginners is to use Prime or maybe Amquel+ at 1.5x to 2x (2x max) for the first year and a half. This gives you a really high quality start while the bacterial colonies are still young and the fish are new and you are new to tank maintenance. After that point you can either stick with the same thing or take down bottle jacket data from the pond conditioners and do the math to see if one of them would give you a significant savings.

Ahh, I'd better underline, the fact, i recommend everyone to use de-chlorinator. lol, a case of do as i say, not as i did. lol :good:

I agree with seachem prime, ebay does a 500ml bottle for around £14 incl P&P,which would last for months :good:
