Should the water colour in the tank be crystal clear or clear with a brownish tint to it?

Raason i'm asking is, that my tank water has been both at one time or another. The water params check out fine. 0PPM for ammonia, nitrates and nitrites and a pH of 7.2. Water temp is 27.4 degress celsius. :p

So fellow fish keepers, is there a norm for water colour and clarity?

If this seems a sillly question, I apologise in advance!

Yes the water should be crystal clear.
Unless, have you added any types of wood to your tank latley?

Ours is pretty clear at present with just an ordinary Juwel filter however, we have just done a pretty major clean out - but certainly Mopani wood can discolour the water for some weeks if it is new.

Maybe a silly point but don't forget to clean the outside of the tank glass. If there are any smokers in the house the outside can get pretty murky and make the water look less clear.

I had wood in my tank once and that ir brownish. Took it out and its clear. I would say mines perfectly clear. I have a few particles floating round in the water though. That diatomic filter sounds like it takes out the smallest of particles so I guess that would do it.
But as for water, mines crystal.
I have a fluvel 201 canister filter.

Try a carbon filter to take out discolouring.

If its wood, you can boil it more, soak it and it will eventually go.

I have brown color water due to driftwood.

What have you got in there then.......lol

Do you have any carbon in your filter?

Renew it if its over 3 months old.
Apart from that Im not sure why its brownish.

Sorry :dunno:

ive been told to replace carbon every 4-6 weeks. my water has always been crystal clear. the only time i cna remember that it hasnt is when i forgot to water changes for a lllooooooooooong while.......dont ask how long :*) .
