I am going on holiday for 12 days very soon, I have sorted the feeding out by leaving pre put up quantities of food (to be given every 4 days), the rst of the food will be hidden!

What size water change should I do before I go? will my normal 20-25% be ok or should I do a larger change?

What do other people do?

nitrate wont kill your fish in days, weeks or months, so you can either not bother at all, or do a water change that you feel is suitable.

12 days of nitrate won't do any real damage as far as I'm concerned but personally I'd do about a 50% just to be on the safe side :good:

I agree, nitrate alone wont be too harmful over that span of time. Although, if a fish dies over that span of time or...you are overstocked and there gets to be ammonia in the water...then that could be an issue.

There are many variables to consider. What size is the tank? How many and what kind of fish are in there? Do you have live plants?

I would do around 45-65% water change IMO.

Thanks for the very quick replies - tank is 240l with 11 danio, 6 molly, 8 cory cats and 6 amano shrimp. will have some one checking tank every day (just not feeding everyday!) so any problems can be quickly spotted.

Think I will do slighly bigger change just for peace of mind. :good:
