Hi,

New to the forum so this may seem a stupid question but i have just upgraded my old 30L tank to a fluval Roma 125 which is fantastic but I am having major problems doing water changes!

My roma is on the cabinet that comes with it so it is jery high and im finding it difficult to get a syphon going to get the waterback into the tank because it is high up, am i missing something obvious here?

I have resorted to balancing my buckets of water on the top step of the ladder so that it is higher than my tank to make the syphoning easier. This cant be the best idea?

Thanks

Paul

Welcome to the forum. I have a roma 125 and i don't find it tall (maybe because im 6 feet). Why dont you buy a very cheap pump and some tubing, put it in the bucket, and then you wont need to put the bucket above the water line :good:

Thanks for the reply :good:

I may be being a bit dim here but what sort of pump can i use?

I have a 60 gallon and it's on a stand and it's VERY tall, I change my water standing on a kitchen chair, I put my bucket on one chair and I stand on the other, makes things MUCH easier, hope this helps!

You need to have the water above the tank to get a decent flow. Normally just sitting a 10/15 litre on top of the tank is sufficient. The tank is plenty strong enough to take the weight of it.

Nice choice with the 125. :D

The system i recommended is currently in use in my fluval roma 125 and works well. :good:

I never said it didn't. All i was stating is the basics of how to syphon water back into the tank without pumps etc.

My system is currently in use on all 4 of my tanks and works well. :good:

Plank of wood across top of tank. Then place bucket on wood.

I use four 25 litre water containers for my water changes, once I have siphoned out approx 100 litre I just re fill by pouring water from each container back into the tank. Taking care to pour it on to the support bar so not to disturb anything to much in the tank.

I used to rest the containers on the edge of the tank to siphon back into the tank with a tube, but the plastic rim on the tank would get pushed down by the weight so I would have to pull it back up.
