I am curently usuing a 20gal rubbermaid bucket to do my wather changes becuase i can't afford the python. Now I have heard some conflictling informaion about usuing warm tap water... I use a kettle and mix hot with cold in the bucket to get it to 75f ish so I am not puring cold water into my tank. SO the question is is it safe to use hot tap water or not?

I use the mixer on the tap.
So yes i use warm water fromthe tap.

But you have to let it stand for a while. Loads of Bubbles.

I mix the water at the tap [20+ years], never noticed that it affected my fish badly.

When my wife and I had our first baby we were told not to use hot tap water for making formula , to boil cold water . Something I think to do wth the solder [maybe cotaining lead and leaching into the hot water ]at the joints in the copper pipes I think :dunno: . Maybe using warmer water will allow metals to enter the tank [ or the the baby bottle ].

Anyone know for sure ?

I use the hot tap aswell now But I think hot water doesn't have to be to the same standard as Cold (Drinking water) :( I always add my dechlorinator to the bucket before it goes in the tank (I swear I've heard people say they add chlorinated water to the tank and then add dechlorinator, Sounds very stupid to me as the damage done by the chlorine will act very quickly)

For those of you with hot water cylinder tanks, the only reason not to use hot water from the tap would be because the hot water cylinder is usually filled from via a cold water tank in the roof space, which is prone to getting spiders and other things crawling into it! If you use a combi boiler then this doesn't apply.

It's for this reason that it's not recommended to drink water from the hot tap (cold water comes straight from the mains), and especially not to use it for baby formula milk.

Not sure what effect any contamination would have on fish though...

Unless you have a combination type boiler that heats the water as you use it then it is not a good idea to use water from the hot tap. If the water has been sitting in the boiler tank for some time it may carry traces of copper which is poisonous to aquatic lifeforms, these copper deposits could build up in your tank and cause unexplained deaths/diseases.

Personally unless i am doing a water change of over 20% i dont bother to bring the temperature of the new water up to that of the tank, infact i just run the water straight from a hose into the tanks and add dechlorinator as i go.

you heat rain water ?
that sounds like good resource recovery.

that wouldn't be the reasoning in my case , my water is heated in a closed tank in my basement[ a water heater ] , supplied from the the main water supply . It isn't possilbe for spiders or anything like that to get in . Just metals , and/or chems.

[ use conditioner for water changes] .

Your water conditioner will take care of any harmful elements in the water from use of the hot water tap.
Water conditioner takes care of copper too, if you buy a decent one. I've been using water from the hot water tap for 15 years now without ever running into a problem.

We don't heat rainwater.  No the hot water tank is held In the roof :D
Sorry I mis understood . I guess it must be open somehow for bugs to get in though . We have different systems , you and I .
