Water Changes In Big Tanks

I use a 12V submersible pump powered by a 240/12V transformer with an inline switch.

Drop the pump in the tank then have a length of hose through the lounge window into an outside drain.

I then bring buckets into the lounge but instead of lifting and pouring I use the pump to pump the water from the buckets into the tank, saves the lifting and spilling problems.

Are you able to send detritus through that thing? I'm just wondering if you use it purely for water changes or also for vacuuming purposes too.

I use a python system too. Awesome. When you fill back up I just put the dechlorinator in the tank, for the whole tank and fill even though I'm doing a 20% water change. I use Prime mostly as my dechlorinator. Python's are easy to use but you need a sink where you can screw on the device and to make the temperature adjustment easy you need one faucet that both cold and hot feed into.

I recently injured my back so I asked my fiance to help with a water change on my 72g....his first ever. I talked him through it and was the one who moved the siphon around etc....and I only had a 3 gallon bucket.

After his third trip with the bucket he asked, "What was that hose thing you kept saying you wanted?!"

with in a few days I had a 50' faucet attachment that sucked water out and put water in with the flick of a switch.

when doing water changes it is recommended you turn the filter off anyways...so once the new water is added to the tank and the dechlorinator does it work, by the time you turn the filter back on you have neutralized the risk of adding chlorine into your filter system

I regularly do water changes of up to 50% with cold water and it doesn't cause any problems, as long as you're syphoning or pouring the new water in fairly gradually.

I have sand in my tank and the pump will pull through any surface waste but you have to be carefull not to pull sand through the pump.
I have a battery powered vacuume with catchment bag to clean the sand.
