Thanks to the help of Aquascaper we are just about set to set up our first marine tank.

We (me and the boyfriend) had a vision 180 (my tank full of female bettas) and a rio 180 (the other halfs tank). Both are now sold and we have bought a vision 260 :)

The tank had a old t8 unit so we have bought a new t5

Testing kit and power heads on order and should be here in a day or 2. Skimmer came with the tank, v2 400 (I think).
Coral sand and crushed coral ready to go in along with salt.

Also got a marisys 240 cheap so are planning to use this along with a external if needed. Even thought I've read alot of bad reports about it

Once everything is here we will be getting 26kg of live rock from our local and it will be all go.

Still researching fish.

Any help would be appreciated

:D

Sounds good, I too am in the process of starting up my first marine tank and will keep a close eye on this. I would love to help but will probably know less than you about it

Best of luck :good:

Brilliant. Great size of tank. Plenty of time to think about fish. That's the good thing about saltwater, it pays to go slowly. Think about what clean up crew you would like. That's just as much fun.. Enjoy. Loads of pics needed in a journal.

Welcome to the salty side best thing I've done

Top one is Aptasia, they will overrun you're tank if not controlled/eradicated which can be done either chemically or naturally.

Middle one looks like an baby anemone

Bottom one no idea

Blue actinic does not lend itself well to identifying things due to the 'washing out' of colours and fine detail so always try and get photos under whites if possible.

I couldn't say for sure about the anemone (possibly a bubbletip), chances are it's fine to be in there the problem is how long it will last. When anemones die they release their defense toxins into the water column and this can be lethal to the tanks inhabitants. Reasons for dying? Poor lighting, lack of food, swings in water parameters. They're not the easiest of things to keep but not the hardest either.

Keep a check on its position and try and get a better photo ;)

Will do, theres about 5 or 6 different 'pieces' of aptasia in a few different rocks.
best to remove them straight away??
was looking yesterday with the needle and syringe method

I used to use a diabetic syringe (from local pharmacy) with white vinegar and inject the foot. Seemed to work ok, just be careful you don't damage the Aptasia and break any off bits as they will regenerate ;)
