I used one 12.5kg bag in the Rio 400 and one in the Trigon 350, BUT I dont plant, so there is 1/2" - 1" thick covering (it varies as the geophagus move it around), so if you wanted 2" thick, I would say 2 - 3x 12.5kg bags.
looking good but thats nothing the male is still lookin washed out , wait until they start breeding and see the difference in his colourtion its quite remarkable
this pic is not the actual male you have got ( this 1 got nuked too!) but will give you an idea hes poking hes head out behind the female in the pic . but the male you have got gets even more vivid than this , he gets lovely gold colors round his face and lovely deep pinks and purples in his ventral fins
This is pretty cool that its worked out like this I think it would be worth trying them again at some point, maybe if you rescape the tank or like put harry in the 400 and vinny in the 300 for a week or so and then move them both back to the 350 at the same time territories would be claimed and with all the dithers etc I think it could work.
But they do look fantastic both of you should be proud of raising such fantastic fish!
Yeah I will try again sometime, I think Vinny needs to settle down before he takes on Harry again, if he hadnt been thru a stressful journey, I may have left him, but didnt like to, would rather have them apart than lose one of them.
Vinny loves the 5ft, so he can stay definately stay there for now, good idea on putting Harry in the rio 300 for a week or two, then move them both back, might try this at some point
Vinny is happily owning the tank, had a complete change around yesterday, so he is now with Seymour (small gold sev), the Suris, rams, rainbows etc, Harry is still in the trigon until he can behave himself.
Rhino (gold nugget) is merrily chomping his way around and the Kribs, (Named Sheena & Shane) well they have chosen their coconut cave and looks like they are nest building, chasing eveyone away from their patch, we may have eggs soon, I bought them some caves with only small openings in them, to keep the larger fish out, so hope that will keep some eggs alive, They have thankfully chosen the cave at one end of the tank, so the rams are staying down the other end
Yeah the nugget seems fine, just dropped some of those pellets you sent up, in for them, in an attempt to get Vinny to eat, both of them are munching away, although they need to be quick!!
The male krib now has more colour on his belly, both of them are in and out the cave all the time, moving sand around outside it too
Here is Rhino in all his glory, always out and about, I guess because there are plenty of places to dash into if he felt the need, he feels secure enough.
