Victim Of Its Own Success?

Like i said before...luckiest cardinals in the world

The glosso is coming out very nice gf225, finally starting to balance out witht the rest of the plants in there.

So are you considering upgrading to a larger tank now that it seems the java fern has taken up all the room?

quick question for you out of the blue gf225... Do you still have your Amano shrimp in the tank, or did they get removed?

really, how did you encourage that to grow so well? i can barely get mine to attach to things, much less grow to enormous size.

Yea..gf225, what's your secret to such a nice java fern? What did you attach it to..and how did you prune and propogate it? You had to do something other than have perfect levels of c02, lighting, and fertilizer to get that java fern to look so nice.

Thank you everyone.

It is nice to have the opportunity to not just show off my tank but to hopefully provide some inspiration to potential planted hobbyists.

If you like the look of a well-planted tank then please don't be afraid to get your hands wet. There is a lot of sometimes confusing and conflicting advice out there but if you stick to a few basic rules then you shouldn't go far wrong. The Planted Tank section is a great place for beginners and more experienced hobbyists alike and the pinned articles will give you a sound basic understanding of what is necessary to acheive a successful planted tank.

I'm always considering a larger tank but I'm always denied by my wonderful wife!

The shrimp are doing well thanks, I have around eight that regularly show themselves.

The fern was originally attached to a piece of wood using cotton thread. That's it, I've pretty much left it alone except for pulling off any old, ugly leaves.

All I can say is that with the right quantities and balance of light and nutrients then any aquarium plant can and will look beautiful.

Getting a whole tank to look beautiful is another thing altogether. I'm currently becoming rather obsessed with the artform that is aquascaping. It is a living art and for me at least is the final frontier in the planted tank hobby. I have pretty much figured out how to grow plants well with no algae, all that is left for me is to create an aquascape(s) that I can be truely be proud of - something that I still haven't yet acheived but I will sure enjoy trying!

I'm sorry, but I can't keep myself from adding my input.

Whenever I look into your tank, that fern bugs me. I think it looks rather hideous and much too overwhelming. I think it detracts from everything.

That's all. Please don't take this harshly, against your beloved fern, I just think that some other plants would look much, much better in its place.

Still though, Fresh_Mike you have to respect the mans dedication. Even if the java fern isn't your choice of plant, whens the last time you have seen a Fern that big and that healthy?!! Sure is my first time, kudos to you George, way to keep it balanced.

I like it , it's alive , green , and it's functional [ helps purify water , and creates secluded spots for fish to rest ]
my 2 biggest Javas or between a 1/4 to 1/3 that size ........

Around here I see plants with 3 or 4 leaves selling between for 6 and $8 a plant ........cha-ching .

No, no, I'm not saying it's poor, it's an awesome plant certainly, keep it! I just think it needs a little (a lot) trimming to keep everything balanced. It's a lovely tank, but the Java Fern throws it off a bit.
