Very New And I Need Advice Please Help

Here are the fish i was thinking about getting for tank, i couldnt help but look while my tank cycles
let me know what combinations work and how many and all that

Jeweled Goby Cichlid or a Buffalo head cichlid
dwarf angel
tiger barb
Cory(not sure what kind)
Licorice Gourami
Marble Hatchet
Clown Loach
Convicts
and something i think is called a Preces
i would also love a puffer but from what ive researched it is a hard fish to manage in a community tank.
I mostly want colorful fish but a good looking fish is a good looking fish
Please also feel free to suggest anything that is not on my list I would greatly appreciate it
thank you

goldfish are coldwater fish arent they? A heater could do long term damage to them.

Since you dont plan on keeping them and want tropical fish where u CAN use the heater I would return them all asap and do a fishless cycle (trust me as someone who is cycling with fish...it sux)

few comments on your proposed fish

Jeweled Goby Cichlid or a Buffalo head cichlid - don't know these so can't comment sorry!
dwarf angel - the only fish actually called 'dwarf angels' are marine fish not tropicals. what you've probably seen is juvi angelfish being mis-labeled by a dodgy lfs who wants to sell thema nd doesn't care if people's tanks aren't big enough. for angels you need to make sure your tank is at least 18" tall cos they get big. also they need a fair bit of room to themselves so your gonna really limit how many fish you can have in your tank if you decide to get them.
tiger barb - nippy agressive little fish, not really suitable for 'community' tanks, they need to be kept with other medium aggressive fish, need to be kept in groups of 6+ as well
Cory(not sure what kind) - need to be kept in groups of 6+ will be much happier if you have sand on the bottom of your tank not gravel, need to keep the sand v clean as well. lovely fish though!
Licorice Gourami - all gourami's can be a bit agressive, be careful
Marble Hatchet - very delicate, not really a beginners fish, not to say you can't have them but you must be prepared to do a lot of research first and be meticulous with looking after your tank.
Clown Loach - get to 12" long and need to be kept in groups of 6+... you need a 100g tank minimum to keep these properly.
Convicts - very very agressive fish especially when breeding
and something i think is called a Preces - don't know what that is sorry!
i would also love a puffer but from what ive researched it is a hard fish to manage in a community tank. - yes puffers do best in species tanks.
I mostly want colorful fish but a good looking fish is a good looking fish

OK a lot of the fish you liek are agressive, you probably could actually come up with some combination of them but an agressive tank is more hard work than a peaceful one, so it depends how hard you weanna make it for yourself. to stock a 30g tank around some of the fish above I would do the following

2x convict cichlid
6x tiger barb
1x Bristle Nose Plec

:)

hmmm that's an african cichlid, generally speaking they do best kept only with other africans, they're requirements for tank set up and ph may be a little tricky. put a post up in the africans section though, they'll know more about it than me so they can help you out.

:)
