Currently I'm conditioning the two. Valentine's starting on his new bubblenest, which is only a row of bubbles. Candi is still flaring but not as much as Valentine, however, the poor guy is a bit timid. I'd figure I'd start this with Jaded, Nakomi and 5steady's spawns going on.
Question - even if I've only had them for a few days, and they're showing good signs, with the male having at least a bit of a bubblenest.. is it okay to let them out? Though I'm not going to do that until I get the MW (need to order them in again) which I should probably do now.. hmph.

Question: Do fry mind large doses of aquarium salt?
I was looking at Valentine and taking pictures when I noticed an off yellow coloration on his head. I immediately looked up velvet and added 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt (heat, not a problem.. the heater was accidentally set to high eighties, and I'm not trying to regulate the temperature.) but once finding a picture of velvet it looks nothing like it.. will the babies mind the salt?

I am happy to say Val's nest is doing good. Need to regulate the temp, get the worms (just ordered them, they'll be here Monday hopefully)
And I should be able to spawn them sometime after that.. possibly Wednesday of next week.

Okay, so I just finished the invoice for the MW. Valentine is up and about this morning building his bubblenest - and Candi isn't flaring anymore!

cool pics sounds good!

I have ordered Microworms for them, until I can get brine shrimp, and I have a 55g growout tank.

Fantastic well done!
did you join that other site its more help than here!

Valentine's bubblenest is quite big, I wish I could release the buggers.. alas, I don't have - and won't have the MW until Monday, I'm worried he'll putter out. I mean, I do have some live plants (infusoria?) in the 10g but it's not a lot. :shout:

EDIT:
Gah, I just found out the food won't be shipped until NEXT WEEK!! six days.. damn...

Free your girl if she has breeding bars. The fry will be able to feed off their yolk sacs for the first few days, then they will feed off the infusoria in your tank for another week. So you should be fine. (The infusoria will grow from the live plants.)

The live plants are in *another* tank.. is the problem. Just a few java ferns (on a piece of wood) and some wisteria.
Also, she's a pale girl so I dunno if she has breeding bars
Plus I chose a shipping option that takes a while too for the MW.. probably four days, this sucks..

Let her free on Saturday I suggest. The fern will be enough, as the infusoria is accepted readily by fry, but in small amounts. So if by next week it arrives, you will be all good. As for bars... Is she flaring back? Is she keeping her fins closed? Those are good signs. If she is ignoring him utterly... That is not good.

She certainly does not ignore him. Her fins are usually closed (or at least, not fully flared), but she does flare. I've noticed she also does seem to watch him through the chimney when he's building a nest.
So should I move the piece of wood with the fern on it into the tank, and get it established?

I released them at 1PM today because the male was very interested.. but it's 4:30 now and whenever the male catches sight of the female she runs away. She checks out the bubblenest when he's not there, but if he approaches her under it she gets frightened. I assume this is spawning behaviour. No real fighting, the girl has a shred in her caudal fin just from flipping out too much.
