largely a myth. well for home tropical fresh water, anyway.

true, they do have valid uses, controlling a algae bloom, for instance.

as for any other of the claims made for them? put simply, the claims are impossible.

the only way to remove a bacteria, or the infection it causes. is to treat the entire tank, AT ONCE!

with the best will in the world, that can not be achieved by a cycling pump system, even with a UV light attached.

so, for a specific job, over a specific time. they are indeed a useful tool.

but as an "always on" system. all they do is burn electric and bulbs.

I was coming to that conclusion based on one bottle of specific illness treatment being £5+, while these sell for <£20 and claim to remove all.
