Using Rocks And Wood From The River Is It Ok And How Do I

basically can i use rocks and wood from out of the river if so how do i prepare it

I use all my rocks from the beach and wood from my garden, oak wood been off the tree for two years mind, rocks boil boil and scrub in boiling water, make sure with a little vinegar, if it fizze's its not good, woods like oak/birch/beech work well, if you find wood in river and all barks removed already this is better, how ever knowing what wood is good as some is soft wood and will break down very quickly, unless you know better of buying some

well if i find wood that is in the river and looks like its een in there for a long time and if its not crumbly

Also if the woods been in the water a long time, it will sometimes sink and those are usually the really hard woods, like posted up there the soft stuff will break apart alot faster, , some folks here get driftwood from the lake and just put it right in the tank,

i think ill dry mine and ten soak it again incase of parasites
