i cleaned my tank earlier including my filter pads ...which there is 3 of them 1 very thick 1 , 1 medium thick and the top 1 which is really thin.. i cleaned it off in my original tank water and noticed it had alot of brown nasty stuff on it as my top filter pad is white, i then took my spare brand new pad and placed it in with the other two and got my tank back to normal ..my question is should i have left my old filter pad in the filter because of the good bacteria which has grown in it to break down ammonia levels and nitrite levels etc ..or was i rite in changing my pad for a new 1 ??

cheers

rinsing in tank water = perfect

replacing only one pad at a time = perfect

Even if you replaced two pads and just kept one old one, that would likely have worked perfectly as well.

Hi, yes you have done something wrong ;) Save the slang for the 'chat rooms' or texting and you'll be treated much more respectfully-no offence :p
