he was fine this morning, ever so excited to see me and get his brekky, then about an hour ago i popped out came back to my son telling me something was wrong,he was lying on he tank floor on his side..
while i was out my son noticed that he heater had been unplugged ( which i purposly did) and plugged it back in... tho my son says that jambo was on the tank floor BEFORE he plugged the heater back in,anyway its out now

he has what appears to be a slug/snail trail over his body ( like u get on the garden path)
ive done a 50% change matching temp back
removed the heater
he did move ( and boy did i get excited) but ony to go to the back of the tank to hide ( still laying there)
i tested the water

0 ammonia
PH 7.5 ( is usually 6.8)

last water change was done on friday

cant think of anything else, but hes never been ill, and nothing really is giving me clues
i went to the lfs and the owner was at the hospital tho i got him on the fone, he says it sounds like electrocution, ( would he still be swimming for that small amount of time??) heart attack/stroke

anything ive missed?, oh this is breaking my heart, hes not moving at all

just to add that the common plec he share a tank with is perfectly ok, and he hides very near to where the heater was

what is the temp in water?
is the heater cracked?
how does he usually act after a big scoff? my oscar never used to until he matured but now after a scoff he rests on the floor for a while,
have you moved anything around in his tank?
do or have you ever noticed the plec clinging to his side or swimming under or around him?

sorry to hear prob, hope we all can work it out,,,
oscars are very sulkie fish, lets hope this is all it is

cheers nelly
hes usually fine after a good meal, no laying down anything, i have cut his feeding back to every otherday now
temp is 22
he chases the plec but never seen them sitting together,or the plec sucking onto him
heaters not cracked
havent moved anything about, not tamperd at all over the holidays
hes not genrally sulky ( these days, tho he was),not even when i do a water change these days he attacks the hose and refuses to let it "win" its been a very long time since he sat on the floor of the tank ,tho saying that i would give anything for this to be a strop, but in the past he has always gone to the back of the tank to sulk, right out the way, when he lay down this morning it was right at the front,
ive just sent out for some peas, just incase

appreciate ur help nelly
xxxx

waldorf did something similar a few weeks back to me, theres a thread in the oscar section section hun, had me worried to hell, but by the evening she was perfectly fine, apparantly she'd just learnt to 'chill out' on the floor.

im hoping for you that this is the case with jambo chick xxxxx

dont know if theres any info there that may help x

thanks spish ill have a look at that in a min

nelly the temp has been between 22-25 since i turned off the heater about 3 weeks ago ( same brand as the one that boiled my commuinty tank),
hes been fine ( or so far as i can see) till now, reckon i should get a new heater in there? ( have had windows and doors open this morning for cleaning etc ( tho no areosols)

Is his breathing pattern different to normal (faster or slower gill movement?)

hi aron, hes in such an awkward place at the moment i can hardly tell but his mouth is openin and closing little bits very slowly, cant really see his gills

yes nelly, it goes up during the day and drops during the night. im using a dig therm in that tank, ill get a heater this afternoon, and bring it up slow

it might be a possibility temps a bit low which is making him lafargic, yes get the heater and rise the temp slowly :good: see how he goes,,,have you tried lifting the lid and see what he does, mine lays on floor if i lift lid or grab the food pot hes soon at his feeding spot,,,

Oh Hon, I cant advise more than what nelly is, but I hope he's ok, Im sure hes just feeling a little cold and the warmth will get him moving again, fingers crossed.

just tried moving a plastic plant, he soon moved  but hes laying down again now.. hope it is a sulk

im in the middle of cooking for a meal this evening so as soon as i can leave it i will and get the heater, im keeping an eye on him tho ( dont actually give a toss if the food burns) and ill keep u updated,

as always thatnks for being there xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Try adding some hot water to the tank for now to raise the temp a bit.
