Hi all,
I desperately need help. I have water collecting under my laminate floors(unknown from where as the underneath is concrete) in all the downstairs rooms. The builder is coming sunday to take up all the laminate.
My problem is what do i do with the fish and tank? i have nowhere to put it. So i think i need to dismantle tank and re-home the fish urgently. Has anyone got any suggestions.
In the tank are, harlequin rasboras, rummynoses, swordtails, cardinals, female siamese fighters and some stebai.
Someone please help me.
I'm in Potters Bar, Herts.

If you have a plastic storage box then you could set it up on the kitchen work top. Put your heater and filter in it then place all your fish in it. You can then dismantle the tank.

Hi,
thank you for info, the floors will need to be up for a minimum of 1-2 months, my kitchen isnt big enough to accomodate a large plastic storage container. But thank you for your advice.

Obviously i do not know the size of your tank but is there no way to drain it either partially or substantially and either uou and a frind/a or get builders to move it to another room where you can add some water back in or move to another room where they have not pulled the laminate up them swap, as such?
Failing that, have you got any buckets you could fish into or maybe like a sterile freezer box which you coild add a heater and an airline? Do upu have a all internal filter which could be used?
Dont panic is the first thing mind, there is always a way ... Its just finding it is all!
Hope all goes ok.

ask your local fish shop if they mind keeping them for you, some might charge you £10-20 for the duration but cant hurt to call them.

If you want to keep the fish, there's always a way; maybe in your bedroom.

If, however, you've decided you want rid, then a site called Aquarist Classified allows you to put an advert up, for free, and you should be able to rehome them that way :good:

Best of luck!

Hi all,
thank you for all your help, i truly have nowhere to keep the fish as potentially this is going to take months to sort. Tank holds 150 litres of water. If no one on this site wants the fish i will speak to the local fish shop, whats so disappointing i've only had the tank up and running since April 2012.

do you have a neighbor whose house you could keep the tank in???

or as fluttermoth said: your bedroom??? my fish live in my bedroom in a 90 litre, which was also set up in April!!!
also my sister has a 160 or something litre tank in her bedroom, i guess my point is you'd be suprised how much weight the floors can hold.

are there any other upstairs rooms they can stay in temporarily??

Hi all,
I took a chance and have set the tank up in my garage, not without heart stopping moments.
This is how it went.....
Moved fish into a large container that had fresh water(conditioned) and water from the tank in. I had it with a heater in since yesterday with a small filter.
Removed plants and put them in a container with water that also had a heater in.
Removed all the water and kept as much as possible, which i put back in tank along with a few plants in the garage.
Removed gravel.
Gave tank a thorough clean.
Tomorrow and hopefully if all the fish are alive i will put them back in the tank.

Is there anything else i should do? fish will have to stay in garage for 1-2 months i think.
As the black gravel is now mixed with the plant substrate stuff i'm planning on changing gravel to Limpopo sand. Whats anyones opinion on that sand?

Its a great substrate. :good:

Glad you got it set up else where.

Run both heaters would be my only advice. I would have also used 100% fresh water in the tank.
