Upgrading From Internal To External Filter

i have been thinking about scraping my internal filters in my goldy tank 20gal uk for an external. is it worth it on a tank this small.

also how do external filters work is there 2 pipes one in and one taking water out and do they ever leak??

What filters do you have now and how many and what size fish?

intrepet pf1 and intrepet pf2

a little over the recomended for that size tank.

i was thinking as i hope to upgrade the tank to a bigger one withine the next 12 months i could buy the filter now and use it etc
