Just thought i'd let you guys know,

There is a new virus going around via e-mail, and supposedly one of the worst. It was detected by one of the top virus protecting comapanies yesterday. The e-mail is intitled "invitation" and when you download the file attached (a buring olympic torch) it destroys the C drive of the computer. I have already got it in my e-mail and deleted it right away. This virus can't be detected, and has no fix. It was reported on CNN as one of the worst in history. So, everyone be aware, and be careful.

Just thought i'd let you all know,

DL

Really? I thought it was real. After all I got an email saying to watch out for it, and then the email itself...Ohh I guess it is... My bad.

my exact point...
They gave a link to the site. If I gave a link to the same site would you trust me? It's a hoax. It was started to see how much people would believe. There's also a "virus" going around that's a powerpoint, it says something like 'life is beautiful' and if you watch it it deletes all your files. That too is a hoax.

What people don't realise is there is 1000's of virus's going around. One of the common ones is sending files from msn, as you download the pic it downloads the virus and then when you send a picture to another person over msn it downlaods onto their computer. This is true though, as I got it and it detroyed my computer, had to wipe the hardrive.AVG is great virus protection.I have the free version and it's very good.Once it detects a virus you simply put it in the vault (which isolates it) then either delete it, or if it's in the file try and heal it.Something like that anyway.Norton antivirus is rubbish though. This is coming from my brother mostly, I don't know to much about computers but am learning lol :nerd:

This is from my brother, but believe him he's a total geek haha. There has been viruses made to specifacally destroy the norton antivirus programme. It slows down your computer a lot just having it installed and is overall rubbish.

Don't just look at the poster with the link, look a the link itself. Anyone with even a modicum of internet knowledge generally knows that snopes can't be beat when it comes to mythbusting :p

I dunno, the Mythbusters are pretty good! :D

And Norton works pretty good for me, I've been using it for a few years.

Saldy Norton A/V has been plagued with security problems over the years. A very recent problem was released where Norton A/V itself can be the source of infection.

There is still a lot of email-bourne viruses, but most of the recent nasty work is being delivered via web pages. There are some really clever tools for miscreants to run on web servers (which they have obtained through stolen credit cards, or by exploiting a weakness in software on a web server somewhere. The tools will evaluate each web site visitor's computer to determine how best to infect the computer. Most people have something installed that is vulnerable - acrobat, shockwave, java, IE, quicktime, etc. The dirty little secret is that most A/V programs can't detect when your computer is being infected that way.

the free antivirus download it provides has a trojen in it. just to let you all no.
