Unknown Mbuna

Hey all ...

Really sorry to bother but can someone tell me what this is ... (I know its a fish, )

I came home to find it as a present in my community tank, this guy is ungodly fast and loves to chase my yellow lab and unknown plec (under tropical discussions if you want to have a go at id'ing it) but it neva actually touches the fish it chases and then it loses interest and becomes placid ...

If it helps ... when this guy gets upset those truly pale stripes vertically down his side go a extremely dark purple.

I would also say he is in the region of 10cm+ (4in+)

Hard to see his shape properly but maybe that he's the same.

This is my male Cynotilapia Afra "red top", changes colour lots and when aggressive he has very prominant dark blue stripes on body and across nose. First picture is my recent and is taken under a marine glow light so looks very blue. Second image was taken when he was a mere babe but under normal lights

Hey all,

Unfortunately Haplochromis is a bit broad for me to do a search on although its a good start.

He is definately not a Cynotilapia, he has a snub nose (very rounded) and from mouth position I would assume he is a bottom feeder. Egg spots are correct and the verticle stripes are similar but the colour is way off he is definately pearl then purple when scared (after I fiddle in the tank, etc.)

Is this definately a Mbuna if not then maybe I can post under new world cichlids as well ??
