No, nitrate is safe to fish up-to about 400-1000, depending on which scientific paper you look at... As a guide, if your manitanance is fine, the nitrate in the tank should be no more that 40 above the tap water reading. If nitrate was toxic above 40, how would people near, or in, London manage to keep fish, when their water source contains 40ppm out of the tap
