I Came home from work to discover i had 2 baby Fry in my Tank. It is a small tank i think under 40 litres, with an under gravel filter. I have had this tank for just over 2 months and touch wood have lost no fish. I have 2 female guppies, 4 males guppies and 3 rainbow minnows. This is a cold water set up.

I know that fish will eat the fry so i got the 2 tiny fry out of my main tank and have put them in a plastic tank about 20cm long (almost like a carrying case). Obviously i have no filter in this small set up-but if i change the water weekly with either clean or water from they main tank, do you think my fry will survive?

Thanks for your time

Fancy guppies need a Tropical tank, around 78 degree's. They will most likely not survive, they need warmer water, and they need a cycled tank. I would suggest you research "cycling a freshwater fish tank" on google. It is very important, and if you dont cycle, most or all of your fish will die. Second, the rule for guppies are 1 male to 2 females, as the males will stress them out and possibly kill them. Also, your tank is too small. You need to get rid of the minnows, and GET A HEATER, and make sure your tnak is cycled. You will do well to buy a Freshwater API Liquid Test kit from the petstore.

These are Guppies that are bread in cold water they are from the pet store that way and i have kept them for years in other tanks! I know in general they are a topical fish which require a warmer temperature but these get along great in a cold water set up hence why i have never lost one.

I'll take my chances with the fry in what they are in but thank you for your help.
