Ultimate predator!

I didn't post that about the live food law as a moral statement or opinion, just as a warning of fact.
At the end of the day it's up to the individual whether thaey want to use live vertebrates as food or not, as long as they are aware of the consequenses if they are caught.

Remember that it is not illegal to buy live fish, humanly kill them and then feed them to your preds.

Yep I realised that, just putting my 2 pence in!!

I'd hate killing the fish myself then feeding it, i'm sure the pred would have a much better method than me

lol um ok im not sick or nothing...i just think its cool watching predator fish hunt thats all i find it interesting they show it on tv and dta all the time. I heard its illegal but it dnt care. Im sure ive seen a pic of sir minion or summin like dat, of his chaca chaca eating a neon thats was very cool. Didnt wana afend any1 tho

So just out of curiousity how can they prove that you are feeding the fish live to your other fish? I mean wouldn't they have to set up survellience or something to catch you in the act (and wouldn't that be illegal) because if they just come in and see you have predatory fish and say "you've been buying these live fish quite often" can't you just say "hey I've been humanly killing them and then feeding them to my fish"? But what's more humane then natures course? Who are we to say that nature is wrong, In the wild these predatory fish would be eating live fish so why not in captivity. I just don't see how they can prove anything with that law or even why they have a law like that as predatory fish eating prey fish is natures course... just my 2 cents

I think the store would notice if you came in to buy 10 tetras every week :p

Yea, they'd prolly notice. But what'll they do? Stop their regular customers from buying? They'd just find some where else. And if the lfs actually do report them, well...

Get a Wolf Fish - pretty boring as they lie in camaflouge, but feeding time makes up for that. :)

What's more humane than nature's course?!!! That would be a mighty long list there! Nature kills because that's nature. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean it's humane. Birds suffer in the talons of hawks until finally killed, lions take down buffalo only after long, brutal fights, fish often get torn apart piece by piece. Since when has nature ever been merciful?

Yes, it's true, there are many pets that have to be fed live food. I have no problem with that. In fact, like I said in my previous post, I have a few such animals myself that I feed live crickets to. What I have a problem with is not feeding live food, but buying a pet simply so that you can watch it kill things. I bought my pacman frog because he's really, really cool, but I didn't buy him just so that I could watch him chomp things. Same with my anole--he's just too cute!!--and the frog I rescued from a feeder fish tank as a tadpole. They all get fed live food. But you don't watch things die just for the fun of it!!! That's NOT right.

hi there

I also have a sengal bichir in my 135 gallon and I think he is really cool. I also have a clown knife fish who is an incredible stock and catch predator but they can get really big. As far as the UK rule i think it stinks. In the wild all predatory fish hunt and kill to survive. Nature isn't a nice a pretty tea party , it's a big fish eat little fish life. I don't take pleasure in letting little feeders die but I do take pleasure in seeing my 16 inch clown knife happy and healthyand getting along wth all the other tank mates.

that law only applies to vertebrates right? Meaning that you could still feed shrimps, crabs, woms, anything without a backbone... a huge variety if you still wished to see a hunting pred without breaking any laws, just an idea.

if you like seeing the demise of feeders (which im not sure why you would-that is a bit sick), why not get an oscar?
oddballs are hard to find but every store has oscars. your 100gal tank would be more than enough space for one.

i agree with never2bknown. i have a turtle, a plated lizard and floating frogs that i feed crickets to. i also feed my bettas baby guppies when conditioning them for breeding. i enjoy seeing them healthy and content, but i do not dervie pleasure from watching them rip apart other living animals.

same thing when my uncle feeds his shark giant danios.it gets his fish moving instead of sitting in midwater wating for flakes to fall from the top.
the shark get danios twice a month

That's rather evil, I think... I feed my frogs and lizard crickets, but not so that I can watch them die. My frogs see a cricket and BOOM it's gone in one gulp. But getting a fish just so that you can watch it kill things? That's kinda sick. :(
I dont think he's getting it JUST to watch it kill things but rather wants it just as a perk. You could also just say that u are adding in new fish to your tank and they couldnt prove anything. Just say that u r determined to keep those fish alive even if htye die every week! :D
