UK Tanks

A very popular one I see in Canada is ALL-GLASS, all tanks seem to be made by that company over here :D

Theres 3!

The main companies we have in North America are Oceanic and Marineland. Each one makes a less expensive brand as well. All-Glass is made by Oceanic, and Perfecto aquariums are made by Marineland.

All are good quality tanks, in my opinion, with Oceanic making the best aquariums besides custom.

And as for why they are different across the pond, I guess it would just be a waste of time and money to ship glass aquariums overseas. :dunno:

ive only ever seen in the US

Marineland, perfecto, oceanic, all glass and TopFin.

all glass seems to be the majority in the us, most of the tanks ive seen, and stock hoods for that matter are all glass company.

I don't think juwel tanks arent all that great, they tend to fix the filter box in place in the all-in-one tank setups so you can't move it around or take it out of the tank- i've also experienced fish getting suck behind this sort of filter box before or heard other people have similar experiences. I've also noticed juwel filters tend to break down alot after a couple months of use...

Dont forget aquaculture you guys!

As for the box filters, I've never once had any problems with any component of a fish tank. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I have had limescale grow on the heater though. That was weird...

All-Glass is a big seller here in the midwest. Probably because they are based in Wisconsin. They offer the most bang for your buck.

I just take the liter number on the Jewel tanks & divide in my head by 4 to get approximate gallons. A jewel 180 holds around 47 gallons, 45 is close enough to give me what I need to know.

I don't mind the Jewel 180, or Rio 240 or any of that. What I don't understand, and it seems to come mostly outside of the U.S., are the posts that start with "I have a 3 foot tank". It could be a 30 gallon, 40 gallon, or 65 gallon. Big size spread there.

In the UK standard tanks come at **x15x12" dimensions so when some one states they have a 3 foot tank it is most likely a 36x15x12" (around 30g).

That confuses me too.

So, you guys dont have wide tanks? I saw a shallow 75G at petco, that looked from the front like it could go on forever....Not really :)

We do have wide tanks too but these arent usually held as standard stock items, UK houses are quite small and a tank sticking 2 feet out from the wall in most rooms would take up more room than most people are prepared to lose so shops dont sell many of them compared to the hundreds of 20, 30 and 50 gallon tanks they sell.

ClearSeal is a common tank make in the UK, I think the US imports them cheaply from China or somewhere, thats why they're so damned cheap.

Clear seal are actually bloody expensive (to have clearseal build my 200g would have cost more than double what seabray charged), and are made in the UK.

Clearseal are the cheapest I found. I got my 15H for £15, works out at around a pound per gallon or slightly over or under.

I've never heard of ClearSeal.

CFC: That makes sence.
Do most of you guys have basements?
We're looking at some new houses, and some of them dont have basements!
I mean, we just had a tornado warning 2 days ago. It was bad, trees were everytwhere...Me and my sister were in a confrence with over 1,000 other kids! Boy was that fun!
They seperated Jr.H and Sr.H, so me and my sister got seperated, in this huge place. My cell phone battery was dieing, and she wouldn't answer. it was nuts.
Finnally they told us we could go, so I went upstairs, and guess what!
They didn't release Sr.H because they though another one was coming!
So heres all these 12-14 year olds wandering arond, stuck inside the church, whilst most iof our siblings were still down stairs.
Like I said, It was nuts.
Sorry for thatlong post having nothing to do about fish.

So do you guys have basements, or do you guys never have tornados?

no generally in the UK we dont have basements, probably 5% of houses do, thats about it. we did have a big hurricane back in 1987, may have had a couple of medium sized ones since but nothing that sticks in my memory.

out weather is rather mediocre all the year round, damp and grey 11 months a year with a small blink of a summer lasting about 4 - 6 weeks.

no need for a basement (although i'd love one to dedicate to fish, that would be cool)

oh and to add my comment to the rest, theres nothing wrong with the juwel filters. i've had mine over 18 months (Juwel Rekord 60 and Rio 180) and very happy with them.

Thanks CFC, that was something I had been wondering about for a while.
