i wanted to maybe make one tank a feeder tank with semi aggresive fish and the other with aggresive which one is better to put these fish in

If the filter hasn't been used before, you need to cycle the tanks before getting fish. There are some nice threads on fishless cycling in the new tanks section.

Above is quite right with the cycling suggestions make sure you read up before getting any fish :)

When you say semi aggressive and aggressive Im not sure what you are expecting? A truly aggressive fish will just be kept by its self as you will end up with dead fish, however most fish like this are too big for your tanks.

In these size tanks you want to be looking at Dwarf South American Cichlids and perhaps a Shell Dweller tank for some of the small African Cichlids. Neither of these tanks are big enough for the bigger cichlids.

I would put the Shell Dwellers in the 20 rectangle and then in the 30 Hex the Dwarf South Americans.

Perhaps a community around a pair of Dwarf Pike Cichlids with a school of tough dither fish. A pair of Crenicichla Regani (this is the best species for you to get there are 2 or 3 other dwarf species but they are more aggressive and do not get the larger species as it will end badly) Then with this pair a school of Hatchet Fish could be good as they will stick up at the top and stay out of sight. Or Swordtails would be a good addition again staying up top and being too big for the Pikes to go for when adult.

An other option for either tank actually would be Exodons - a massive school of these mini predators but no tank mates, a lot of people say they are worse than Piranhas in tanks as they are constantly on the move. But this would be a tank just of these no other species but they do look quite impressive, worth having a look on Youtube at some videos of Exodon tanks :)

What other fish have you seen that makes you want to go down these routes? If you dont know the names just describe them and someone might know what they are.

what cichlids are you thinking of, South American (New World) or African (Old World)?
