Tropical Puffers?

Is there puffers you can have in freshwater(not saltwater) really want to get 2 but dont want salt water.
If there is how big of a tank will I need and what tank mates would you suggest

Yes, but I'm pretty sure most puffers a very territorial and don't like other puffers so for two you would probably need a good size tank. Here is a link to a few different species: http

I actually asked this question in a shop today.

But being a beginner, What I rememeber was...

there is a puffer that says in tropical water (forgot name)

there are other fish you can keep with them and some shirmps.

60L tank 2ft (he said you could have about 6 puffers but would need to upgrade tank later and split some up)

all this going on what our fish store told me.

There's pea puffers for freshwater, I've kept one before in a 10 gallon divided tank. Male Betta being on the other side of the tank. probably 10 gallon for a pair would suffice.

My favourite freshwater puffer right now, which I might get again one day is the Irrubesco Puffer. I'd say 10 gallon for one and 15 gallon for a pair.

I'd recommend strong filtration, since theyre quite messy n poop quite a bit. I've tried some tankmates with them but theyre best kept in a species tank. Puffers are very nippy, and will nip at tankmates to death. The one fish that I remember never got nipped at and held his own well, even chase the puffer before it even gets too close was the Siamese algae eater. Theyre active day n night and extremely fast. I still suggest to keep them species only.
