Tropical Ponds?

The dreaded bureaucracy and all the revenue they suck out of us for anything we want to do with our property. I guess the British Empire is the origin of the bureaucracy that some of us Yanks in the US have to endure. It borders on extortion in my opinion. We have to have permits and inspections here for any modification to our plumbing. Even for a new water heater (earthquake proof). I have to pay someone $100+ to replace a water heater when I could do it myself for $10. Plus I have to have it inspected.

For your question regarding where to get freshwater stingrays and tigrinus. Try Pier Aquatics if they are in your area. My mate that lives across the pond knows the owner, Neil. He tells me that Neil gets all kinds of large predatory fish all the time. Worth a visit. I was told he has an amazing display of fish including stingrays and tigrinus :D

Its the same here, building regulations are getting on the verge of ridiculous, your not even allowed to replace a broken plug socket without calling in a electrician and having a certificate issued to show the work was carried out by a competant and quallified person. The electricians are rubbing their hands together with delight and have all put their prices up because they know you have to get them in by law now, ive been given a quote of £500 to wire up my fish house, we're talking conecting a 4 switch consumer board to the house main via a armoured cable, 10 double plug sockets, 2x5 foot twin flourecent lighting units two extractor fans and a couple of electric heaters, i'll do all the first fixing myself so its no more than half a days work!!

Theres lots of shops in the UK which deal in the more exotic species like rays and big cats, Wharf Aquatics, Wildwoods and Pier Aquatics are to name but a few.

Please let us know how he was able to ask for planning permission over the weekend when it was only mentioned at 9pm GMT last night? I find this very hard to believe since planning applications have to be submitted in writing with an architechs drawing to the council planning office and usually take a couple of weeks to be processed.

Good luck with the project and i look forward to seeing photo's when its built.

I had only found out about it all recently, he and my mum had been planning the whole thing for some time. My step-dad's friend Tom something, a designer, had designed only the pond but because of the advise on the conservatory, he hasn't been able to show them that, just give them the measurments. Does anyone know if this is appropriate? :/ hope so!
