Hi all

I was just wondering if anybody could tell me a decent setting level for a digital SLR camera when taking photographs.

I have managed to borrow my girlfriends Nikon D200 camera along with a macro lens, but when i try and get photos they are too dark.

Can someone please tell me decent shutter speed, iso etc??

I looked at the stickied thread but it seemed a bit outdated and not about DSLR so much?

Please help! I need to take pictures of my Community Fish and my Cherry Shrimp breeding tank Shrimps!

You want the aperture to be open as wide as possible and the shuttle speed to be as fast as possible. Not sure how you do it with that camera but normally you will have an AP mode. With the camera in this mode you can change the aperture size to the widest possible and the camera will select the best shuttle speed.

Use a tripod if you can or rest the camera on something to stop it from shaking, set the ISO as high as possibe (1600 or 800). Expect to get a lot of pictures of blured shapes :) I find that fish love to stay still just long enough to line up a perfect shot then the second you press the shutter release they shoot off leaving you with a nice blurred picture of a fish tail :)

You can try closing the ap size to increase the shuttle speed which helps when you are taking pictures or fast moving fish. You just need to experiment to get the right balance of exposure and fast shutter speed.
