Hi all,

I am converting my trigon to marine and need some help with the filtration / water turnover of the tank. I have drawn a diagram of what I want to do, I hope it helps lol

I already have an Ehiem 2026 and maxijet 600.

My plan is to get another powerhead (or get 2 new more powerful powerheads). The powerheads will be located in the lower half of the tank on the far end of the 2 flat walls behind LR. The Ehiem will be set up at the back also pulling from the lower half, but the return spraying out along the serface. I then plan to buy a V2 400 skimmer or red sea delux skimmer and have this on the left hand flat wall.

The Ehiem has a turnover of 950l/h, the V2 400 has a turnover of 2400 l/h. So am I ok with 2 maxijets 600 or should I get some more powerful ones? Any ideas on what skimmer ot get? Finally what do you think of this set up, im open to any ideas.

Michael

Hey, 1st of all dont get a red sea skimmer they are naff as every1 says ive got a tmc 400 and it works a treat you get salt deposits on the pipes but part from that it works well and catches 7/10 all the micro bubbles going back into the tank.

Powerhead wise u need a minimum of 10x your water amount so really 2 maxijets wont work. i say go for seio m620 pumps on atlantis aquatics as they do 2400litres and hour on 8 watts! but i would have a current blowing at the front as other wise be bit dead spots there.

For the external ive filled mine with like special media made my seachem as it basically isnt a nitrate factory like ceramic media but also means u can still have good filtration along with your LR OR you could just fill it with LR then that way its like constantly having water flown around it.

If it was me ivd have the maxijets blowing rnd the back (2 of them and a seio or summit similar blowing at front.

if your keep corals the lights on the trigon a bit pitterful m8, as i sell them on weekends and they donthave many watts. But if it was fish only with LR then your fine.

Have you cut out your box filter??? i did hate juwel filters...
Any more querys ill be happy to help and give my ideas or what ive done.

Hey,

Thanks for the info.

After yours and many others advice I have decided to go with a V2 400 skim and have bought 2 x maxijets 1200. With regards to the front and dead areas, I am now planning on using my exsisiting maxijet 600 to move water at the front. I have updates the diagram lol...

Yeah I am going to fill my external with LR rubble, and no I took the jewel black box out to give me more room in the tank!! :good:

I have upgraded the jewel bar with T6 lights, and may add some T5 in the future if add corals.

I have also got all my LR now, I have got about 50kg  Although this maybe a little too much!

Nice one sounds like you will be going fine on that! u really dont need 50 kg well u can but dont need too. mins a 52 gallon rio 240 and i only have 25kilos and its just right use a lb converter to work out how muhc u need as u need roughly 1-2lbs per gallon.

good choice with the skimmer though!
