Dosing smaller amounts more frequently is always better than dosing one large amount weekly.

yes, 5ml's per 100 litres is correct as aaron says, it would be a lot cheaper for you to buy some dry fertilisers and mix them yourself.

i dose 6ml per day on my 50 liter and get really good growth started with 3ml per day but had some yellow leaves and plants didnt grow to well, switching to dry ferts asoon as this last bottle runs out

you can either do Estimative Index with dry powders, or make up a DIY TPN+ using them:

I use TPN+ and keep looking at EI and DIY TPN but everytime I do I walk away with a frazzelled brain...

I'm sure it would work out cheaper for me in the long run, I just can't seem to get my head around it.

same
i think if i try it ill kill all the fish or have algea comming out of my ears

I think you'll be hard pressed to kill your fish by adding to much ferts, unless u mistakingly pour in liquid ammonia! :good:

It also seems to be a popular misconception that you get algae from an excess of ferts/nutrients. Algae is usually caused by a to much light and ammonia and not enough Co2 for the plants to use to meet their growth rate. Tho I too could be mistake about that. ;)

i wish someone could magicaly appear show me what to do then disapear again,
might have a look for a magic lamp on ebay

it took me afew reads for it to sink in but once it does its straight forward, its better to have to much nutrients(within reason) than not enough as having not enough cause poor plant growth which then causes algae. I have just mixed 3 different bottles 1 x macro, 1 x trace mix and 1 x Magnesium Sulphate.

macro bottle contains

33g Potassium Nitrate
7.2g Potassium Phosphate
mixed with 250ml of tap Water

trace mix bottle contains

10g of aqua essentials trace mix plus
mixed with 250ml of tap water

magnesium sulphate bottle (not totally needed depends on your tap water content)

70g of magnesium sulphate
mixed with 500ml of tap water

all are avaiable from aqua essentials and probably afew other places but thats where i got mine, you should add the following 3 times a week 5ml of macro per 50 liters, 2.5ml per 50 liters and 17ml of magnesium sulphate per 100 liters but adding this will depend on how heavyly planted your tank is if its not got loads of plants it might not be needed.

follow this weekly schedule and add magnesium sulphate with macros if your using it and thats it

Sunday 50% water change. Add Macros (KNO3, KH2PO4)
Monday Add Traces
Tuesday Add Macros (KNO3, KH2PO4)
Wednesday Add Traces
Thursday Add Macros (KNO3, KH2PO4)
Friday Add Traces
Saturday Rest day

just to add the above is for a planted tank with injected c02, if you havent got injected c02 you are probably better of with the all in one solution just follow aaronnorths link

Its not really that hard. If i tell you to add 10ml of orange juice, and 10ml of apple juice. You'll do it.

Now if I tell you to add 10g of potassium nitrate & 10g of potassium phosphate is there really that much difference? The only thing confusing about it is the chemistry & reasons behind why/ how it works, which you dont need to know, all the info you need is how much to add of each salt.

If you want me to give you the numbers then just tell me your tank size, and I'll do it :good:
I also need to know whether you want to do Estimative Index, or DIY tropica plant nutrition+

I use EI, and I have 2 bottles, from which I dose 40ml of each once per week. With the TPN+ you would just use the same dosage guidlines,

Thanks, Aaron
