Tpn+ Recommended Dosage

Its not really that hard. If i tell you to add 10ml of orange juice, and 10ml of apple juice. You'll do it.

Now if I tell you to add 10g of potassium nitrate & 10g of potassium phosphate is there really that much difference? The only thing confusing about it is the chemistry & reasons behind why/ how it works, which you dont need to know, all the info you need is how much to add of each salt.

If you want me to give you the numbers then just tell me your tank size, and I'll do it
I also need to know whether you want to do Estimative Index, or DIY tropica plant nutrition+

I use EI, and I have 2 bottles, from which I dose 40ml of each once per week. With the TPN+ you would just use the same dosage guidlines,

TPN+ is lighter on nutrients than EI, which isbetter suited to tanks with hig light & CO2 injection (lots of fast growth). But TPN+ dosage can easily be raised to accomodate for this.

48g Potassium Nitrate (KNO3)
2.2g Potassium Phosphate (KH2PO4)
17g Magnesium Suplhate Heptahydrate (MgSO4.7H2O)
0.5g Ascobic Acid (Vitamin C)
0.2g Potassium Sorbate E202
5g Trace Elements (CSM+B)


Add all that to 500ml distilled water and dose 5ml per 100l daily or every other day.

Bottled water? Or do I have to by water from AE? Is that the same water you'd use in a drop checker?

distilled water or de-ionized water will do. It just has to be pure. DI water is available at car sections in Halfords or Tesco etc.

They are both the same thing, but just use different methods to get to the same point (pure water)

The 4dKH from AE used in the DC is made using distilled/ deionized water but Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) is added to raise the KH up to 4degrees.

Scales are best, but each teaspoon of powder is approximately 6-6.6 grams, providing you use a proper tea spoon measure and not a tea spoon.

I have a 35 litre Arcadia Arc tank, on which i am using 2 x 11w arc pods (1 at the moment as the other is broken)

Could you possibly provide me with numbers for the dosing? I don't mind whether it's EI or TPN+ mix (as i don't know the difference ) but i would like it to be one that i could add every day rather than every other day to make it easier to remember.

Alan - how are you finding the tank with two arcpods? Did you replace the lid with a new one or are you leaving the tank open? And is it just the bulb that is broken or something else?

I've just ordered another one for mine in preference over the Boyu light, and can still cancel if you think it's not working out!

Do these scales allow you to "zero" them with a container on it? or to you need to weigh the container and work it out yourself?

They do, that's what the "tare" button does . You can also buy similar scales from head shops and pretty much any shop that has bongs in the window display (where I live anyway), if you'd rather go into town than use eBay. Cost £5-£10 in stores though, faster than eBay.

I haven't changed the lid, i just have it with the lid resting on the base of the arc pods. It doesn't look perfect but i haven't found a better alternative. Although i have actually been looking at a 36W overhead luminaire on ebay. I think that might be a bit too much lighting though for my wee tank. I haven't heard of a boyu light?

It's something else that's broken on the arc pod, i tried it with the other bulb (that i know works) and it was still not lighting.

Hi Alan, the numbers for TPN+ above are a "one size fits all." Once you have mixed the powders into the water, you will dose 1ml per 20l everyday.
Only EI numbers vary from tank to tank.
