Top Of A Yamitsu Lp50

I just got two Yamitsu LP50 air pumps. What is the top of the pump for? It is plastic and can spin around.....

Is it so you can stick it to the sides of stands,the rectangular bit could be for a sticky pad.

It turns to allow the connection from any direction.

This is a guess.

i dont think so - this thing weights a lot and has 4 feet to sit on. You cannot hold it in any other way other than vertical

I think it may have something to do with the amount of air flow into the pump?

Are you sure it's not where it's had a sticky pad on it? With the way it twists could be to get the best position that you require.

I used to use an air pump, and mine was also stuck to the side of the stand like that could be. But it didn't twist round.

Have you tried wireing it up to see if it does effect the air flow when you twist it?

what do you mean by a sticky pad?

The top will spin freely. I took it apart, and its the only place that there is a vent for air to get in. By spinning it, it unscrews its self. There is also a rubber seal under it. I am therefore guessing it must tighten the gap for air to be sucked in. But i am not 100% sure. But its really not for mounting purposes - the screw along would not be enough to hold the weight of the pump!
