I thought the easiest way to show this was with a video. Apologies if it takes a while to load. You will also have to excuse my African Grey who decided to voice her opinions about me filming the fish and not her.
On the left you can see my power head which has a 4000l/h turn over. My cardinals all shoal together and sit about. But as soon as the pump is put on, they split up quite a bit and use all parts of the tank, rather than just the one bit they huddle in while it is off. Try and have a look from their behaviour in the video and let me know your views of if there is too much flow for them or not.
