Here's a question for the members who browse through pet shops. Are you seeing healthy threadfin rainbows where you are?

It's a slender species to begin, and a delicate one in every sense. I used to breed them, and would love to have some in my fishroom. But when I've seen them in regional stores, they've been consistently too thin and unhealthy looking. Or, they've been 100% males. This goes back more than 10 years.

So, is the central supplier from my region buying poor stock, or are the captive stocks in bad shape everywhere? Where I am now, I would have to order them blind online, and I'm wondering if there's any chance.

I had looked at them before I got TB throughout the rainbow tank ( I never had any here ) I see Dan’s sells them ( out of stock right now ) but they typically brag about the condition of their fish, so if they have them for sale, they should “look” nice… that doesn’t mean they farm well, as I have witnessed with the sail fin mollys… I don’t have any local shops, except the dog groomer with tanks, and they have never had them that I have seen, but I only go in there every 6 weeks or so, for feeders and frozen foods…

We purchased nine juveniles a month ago in Cape Town South Africa, of which two are males. All very healthy and very active in my son's tank. Cheers
