Hello! Now.. this could be a very silly question.. but how do people clean their tanks glass really well?

I have a magnetic cleaner which i use to the best of my ability.. but even that can only do a mediocre job on the slightly more hardy calcium deposits at the water line. I thought of using vinegar or something similar but then again I don't want to harm the chemistry of anything in the tank.. let alone the fish!! .. is there another way or is it a case of just working at it until my arm falls off or the calcium is gone.. whichever gives way first?

Get a new sponge that has a green scourer on the other side and use that, keep it for use on your fish tank so it doesnt ever get cleaning products on it

Be extremely careful that the green edged sponges are not preloaded with cleaner. Where I live the very much are and its not stated on the packages. Smell and even taste the darn thing if you have to!

I have a long armed plastic algae cleaner that lets you put in a razor blade for difficult deposits. Only good on a glass tank tho.

I've got one of those too. They're very good for cleaning the glass with, but you have to either get it early (if you're using the plastic scraper thing, as it's more rubbery than plastic-y), or be *extremely* careful when using it with a razor blade in. It's scarily easy to scratch your glass with a razor blade. You're better off getting a green scoury sponge thing (but as waterdrop says, make certain it's not presoaked first - cheap, supermarket own-brand ones in the UK aren't - or at least I haven't found any that are, yet)

Always have the calcium brim around the top edges... I got myself a putty knife (3"wide) to scrape it off... it works.
