Change it to either a piece of black paper or a bit of black plastic trash bag. I always find that to be quite a stark difference. It will also make the plants 'pop' a little bit more.

DI trimmed the tops off the Hygraphilas plants and replanted the cutting to make more grow out. But unfortunately the Rotala is suffering. Many stems rotting and leafs mushed to black goop. I removed the goop threw away and salvaged what I was left with. Some stems have roots but very small like one tiny stran. Also the red is fading to black on the remaining leafs. Here is a pic

I feared that might happen with the red leafed rotala
Did try to say they require some high lights, perhaps getting a lower demanding plant will work better in your favour.
I am forever learning what works and what does not grow in my tanks. Some plants i think would thrive end up growing badly, and others i think would not grow end up doing pretty good
So its a learning process in discovering what works well in your tank, all tanks are different, what might grow well in one tank with the same tap water parameters might not grow well in the other tank.
Keep going, you will have a lovely healthy planted tank before you know it

ch4rlie, you were right, I wish I had known before buying. The other plant is doing ok, I'm gonna let them grow out, trim and replanted untill the tank is looking nice. I don't think I will buy anymore plants lol. Here is an update on my Betta. He is building a bubble nest in a corner, it's very cute.
I have a small concern . For some reason his fin ends are looking a bit rough, esp his top and bottom. Is he biting himself. It's in the last pic below. I also noticed he may rest at the bottom, top, or on a plant more than usual.

Bettas do 'sleep' and find places to 'rest'. So, as long as he isn't always doing that, but only doing it periodically for 'rest', then I wouldn't worry about it.
The thermometer is reading about 26.5 C/80 F.
I was asking because I know that male bettas kept at 'traditional tropic' temps (72F - 75F)are more susceptible to fin rot. Typically, 80F is what I would recommend as a 'safe' temp.
If you are concerned about this, I'd suggest starting a new thread in this section. We have a few very knowledgeable betta keepers around who will be happy to give you some assistance, but may not check this thread specifically. I'd title it something like: "Is this fin rot?" or similar.

Iam going to keep an eye on him. I did do a water change 50% on Saturday. Was the first one since I got him. (2 weeks). I didn't vacuum the substrate should I? The other thing is I do use the plant liquid kit called seachem plant pack fundamentals. Maybe it is no good for him? I know a water change helps a long way at times maybe I should do another Incase?
So after inspecting I saw the flow of the filter was halted nothing was coming through. The sponge piece I placed inside the tube totally blocked it as it got pushed by the flow. I did a test everything was fine though just a bit of nitrate was shown. I did a 50% water change as the surface looked stagnant. I'm gonna keep an eye on his to see if he is resting less .
