Should I just remove one piece of hornwort from the main tank? Also how do you propagate hornwort?
Nothing to it. Put a nice starter sprig in there and have it where it gets the bulk of the day's sun and it just grows. It grows so good it even out competes most algae. Watch that the water doesn't get too warm.

Throw it into water, watch it grow :)
It really is the easiest plant in the world, it'll do it all by itself. It's trying to stop it taking over the world that's tough (same goes for duckweed - I tried to kill off duckweed, and I found it still growing, thriving and propagating in a bucket of bleach solution).

Great thanks :)

What size container should I use? And do I use tank water or just dechlorinated tap water?

@Wills knows both cichlids and plants well, perhaps he can offer more suggestions. :)
Thank you too kind :)

Its a bit of try and see what happens as the cichlids might just destroy the plants. I prefer African Cichlids in set ups that echo their habitats so with Malawis it is just quite a barren landscape with rocks and boulders. You are so limited with the plant choices too that you are not really getting the effect of a planted tank like you can with American Cichlids either so I don't know what to suggest really. If you want to grow it in tubs as a project go for it but what it adds to the cichlids here I'm not sure.

Declorinated tap will be fine :)

Container size doesn't matter either if you're not raising fish out there (some in the UK will raise guppies or something outside in summer, bring them in in winter) so for just plants, whatever you have/find that you think will work for you.
