Thinking Of Adding Some Local River Rock To Hardscape My Tank

I know i should test with vinegar to test but my question is.
 
Whats the best way to clean?
 
I was thinking a good scrub with nail brush and clean water then soak in a bucket of water for a week changing the water daily.
 
Maybe throw in some sort of invertebrate killer so no worms, bugs are in the rock crevices.

Sounds fine to me, I would scrub with really hot water. Don't see any need for soaking for a week and doing water changes

IMO Vinegar is too weak an acid to provide a reliable test for carbonate

Snails are not a bad thing, but if you feel you need to get rid of them assassin snails will do the job.

may I ask what the "vinegar test" is?

I think the "vinegar test" is you soak the object in vinegar, and if it fizzes, it means it's not safe to put it in the tank.
