How does this re shuffle in stock sound to you people , currently 5ft 500l temp 81f
3x electric blue acara
2x keyhole cichlids
2x severum ( green spot I think)
8x Colombian tetra
10x bronzed corydora
1x l200 pleco
The re shuffle is to try and clean up my tank a bit and save in maintaining
New stock
3x electric blue acara
5x twig whip tail cats
1x severum
1x triangle (uaru cichlid)
5x red hook silver dollars
1x l200 pleco
( possible keep the tetra ?)
Any thoughts on the changes ?

I noticed a big change in my tank between when I had catfish and when I didnt - their constant zooming around breaks up the dirt created by the bigger fish and gets it into the water column and into the filters, without them you get build ups in corners and around wood and rocks etc. I'd just think about it if your intention is to make it a bit lower maintenance.

Whiptails dont need to be in a big group, they'd be quite happy in pairs - infact some males dont get on but your tank is big enough. Also dont mix Twigs and Whiptails up they are quite different fish, Twigs are Farlowella which are quite a bit more fragile than most Whiptails. Twigs are quite specialised eaters and its not uncommon for them to fade away in community tanks.

Uaru are a gregarious cichlid and usually do best in a group which means the tank should usually be planned around them than added to an other. What about an other big SA like a Chocolate or a True Parrot? Or a different type of Severum? Same sex as your current one but go for a mouthbrooder, rotkiel or notatus? Though if you want a little less maintenance do you really want an other big pooper?

With the Silver Dollars, Red Hooks are one of the biggest common species. What about a bigger group of a smaller species like the spotted or black berries? Though you could always increase your school of Tetras which makes more sense as 5 adult Silver Dollars will produce more and larger waste than the Tetras?

What about something like

1x Severum
3x Electric blue acara
15x Colombian tetra
5x Flagtail Catfish
2x Whip tail cats (Rineloricaria or Sturisoma)
1x l200 pleco

My advice... Hand the L200 plec over to me!

No, just joking... Really, though... Wills seems to have some sound info and recommendations. I'd definitely bump up your amount of tetras. The bigger the better! Honestly I would have thought that cichlids would go for tetras, but Colombian tetras are pretty chunky on a second look.

Shame about the triangle i was leaning towards another larger cichlid just to break up the Sev’s but still keep the same like for like change I’d be looking to grow them out again from around 3cm and I keep toying with a green terror , I know bad idea and also looked at black acara a little smaller maybe a Better choice , the flag tail cats look cool to be fair

Yeah one of my tetra is at least 2.5-3 inches it’s a big boy but this is my second lot of Colombians now because my first lot didn’t go to plan lol I had a 7inch Oscar at the time bought 8tetras and 4siover dollars the Oscar ate them all few days later I rehomed the Oscar lol funny enough two of the tetra survived come out of hiding hours after it was gone looking for food , troopers lol

Another reason why oscars freak me out!

Have you ever seen Aequidens Diadema? Sometimes called the Royal Acara, really nice fish that might fit what you are looking for?

Wills

*edit* - just to add I had one for quite a while and it was pretty predatory so no small fish but your Columbians would be ok.
