In the interest of answering questions that other people might ponder on

I've found the following fish to be good at schoaling :

  • Neon Tetra - as long as there is more than 4, otherwise they just get confused
  • Rainbow Fish - My Dwarf Neon Rainbow fish and Boesmani Rainbow fish schoal together
  • Tiger Barbs - I just have 4, but they always swim together and don't bother the other fish. I have a lone Black Ruby Barb, who doesn't stick with them
I've found the following fish don't schoal at all

  • Platy of any description
  • Balloon Molly

My Neons will school with Ember Tetras and then occasionally peel off into seperate groups intermittently.

my 6 red parrot platy shoal together constantly. well usually 5 do and one stays as a loner. :good:

I have about 14 or so Platy and they never leave each other alone

I have, black phantoms, long fin serpaes and bleeding hearts, at least 5 of each, and they school together quite nicely.

I had five Mickey Mouse platy that shoaled lovely together. Really nice to see their bright orange colours.

I guess this thread just goes to show it all depends on the individual fish(es) and aquarium. There is hardly ever a definitive 'this fish does this' statement as the are always exceptions to the rule.
