It seems my new fish have a few problems......

They almost certainly have some sort of external parasite, the have been flicking lick mad, although havent shown any other symptom yet, and i woke up this morning to find what looked like a long white worm hanging out of one of the others

I dont know what to treat first! i thin they may have white spot, as every fish ever got from there have had it, but they seem to have redish gills, and gill flukes are all the rage at the min???

Whats likley to kill them first?

why keep shopping there then?

what fish are they and what else is in the tank?

Its the closest place to were i live, i dont drive :(

They had a million guppies and sword tails :/ 1 largish oscar and 2 big Silver dollars, Along with a million algea eaters.

not what did they have in the tank, what fish have you bought that are poorly, what size tank are they in now and with what tankmates, this could affect what medications you should use.

 Sorry

I got 4 female sword tails and 2 algea eaters, and there in quarantene at the min

There is a shrimp in with them because ive been treating my main tank for a previous gill fluke infection, but i plan to put him back in m y main tank tonight.

if he's in a tank with diseased fish you shouldn't move him until all the problems are cleared up.

so you think they have white spot, gill flukes and parasites then?

your gonna have to be very careful treating all 3 to make sure the medications don't cause problems with each other.

what sort of algae eaters are they?

Golden, i already know there gonna ba a problem, I thought they were otto's when i bought them :(

I dont think they have al three, But the deffinatly have Worms, and either Gill flukes or white spot. I thin it could be white spot, as that place is renowned for it.

to be perfectly honest i'd take them all back to the shop and have done with it!

Ive never taken a fish back before, and im a little intimidated by the whole idea......

they only cost me £7 for the whole lot of them, and ive got some sterazin, so il try and treat them.... Im just woried about the shrimp. Strazin kills shrimp :(

If i take the shrimp out of the quaranteen tank and give it a salt bath before putting it back into the main tank. Will that do it?

don't be intimidated, they've sold you ill fish, it's cost you time money and energy stressing over it, you have every right to take them back.

do you have another quarantine tank the shrimp could go in?

i'm not sure how salt is with shrimps. if you take him out you risk contaminating any tank you move him back to. :/

Bugger, i only have the two.... What a predicament! can shrimp carry parasites?

I agree why get stressed over it, take them back and if you have no other shops near you what about buying over the internet from a reputable dealer, i have done this several times with no problems or is there anyone near you that has fish and drives so that you could perhaps share expenses and go off for a buying jaunt.

exactly, if you really want to go someone you can always pm me or ian, we both drive and don't mind visits to fish shops, if you bung us a few quid i don't mind taking you somewhere decent

Your right, even though taking these fish back will almost certainly cause there death i think its what needs to be done.

Im afraid Tong Garden centre is to be avoided like the plague for fish. The staff there couldnt give a toss and the fish are often mixed with wrong species which gives an uneducated buyer the wrong impression.

Point in had, male bettas in with gourmais!

I would have bought the little chap, but having bought bettas from there before and had them all die, i decided not to. I have also tried to advise them when i see things wrong in there and you just get looked at as is to say, " hey i work here, what do you know!"

If they aint careful, they will end up with the same rep as Dying World in Leeds......

Noshy, If you want some swordtails, i have some lovely pineapple swordtails you can buy. bung us a £1 a piece for em if you like. Just an idea, dont matter if you dont want to, but theres plenty of people around your area, like me Alice, Ian, Paul (although he dont drive LOL) who can advise you on where to buy and where not to.
