The silvertip tetra was the first fish I have ever owned. These fish are semi-aggressive, which I did not account to do before I adopted them into a former City Farmers (now Petbarn) in Booragoon. It was 0.9km away from where I live. I got a small school (6) of them for my PetWorx 40 litre aquarium. They were doing well in the aquarium all to themselves until I have got cardinal tetras then a dwarf gourami. I still have them to this day.

They can get a little nippy in small tanks or in small groups, but in the right set up, they are really cool fish. I see them as small fish for slightly larger tanks.

I had to look up where Booragoon is. If I were in Australia, I'd be looking for rainbowfish.

Silvertip tetras are lovely fish that are easily overlooked in shop tanks, but under the right conditions they are really pretty. They aren't bright and colourful like a neon or cardinal tetra, but they have their points. They are also pretty tough and nowhere near as inbred as neons.

Rainbows in Australia are riddled with Fish TB so unless you get wild caught there's a good chance your tank will get it :(

Having said that, if I ever get my tanks back and am allowed to set them up, and I can get my van sorted out, I would like to do a trip around Oz and collect a bunch of fish. Then I could give some to our young enthusiast. But it will be a while so no promises. :)

I'm talking silvertips, not rainbowfish.
