Hey Lovelies!
Not much to report here. 'Tis Sunday and all is quiet. Kinda. Few jobs to do and hopefully 8 o clock will see me with a little glass of vino happily partaking in guppytime!
My daughter turns 7 tomorrow. Much excitement. Party to be had. I hate kids parties!
Half my tooth came away couple days ago while having breakfast. EEEEeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkkk! Hightailed straight to dentist but had to wait 'til the next day for filling. Luckily t'was a back tooth.
Just checking back through the pages I've missed. You guys have beautiful fish. Well done! :good:

Hey Lovelies!

Late night bonfire last night, still nursing myself back to health............

Big water changes planned for today including moving some fish stock & plants around. Just need to find some energy somewhere.

Really had no chioce, mom bought im for me because she said i needed a pretty fish.
By the time he outgrows i might have upgraded...

Great. My beloved Betta fish, Oscar, has dropsy. I'm literally on the verge of crying here, there's nothing I can do but wait for him to die.

Scales starting to stick out:

I suppose it's just a matter of waiting now.

Lucy, I would try a huge water change & then maybe add some aquarium salt. At this point it probably can't hurt to try...........

Immediatley treat with a strong antibiotic. There's always hope if you catch it early!

If he's in a community tank you should move him to a hospital tank setup with fresh water. Do a massive water change on his tank anyway for the other fishes sake.............

She's in the UK though Crossfire, they don't have access to antibiotics like we do. Regulations

I would try something like T.C. Tetracycline by API if she can get it. It treats internal & external bacterial infections, assuming that's what this Betta has. Dropsy is not a disease in itself but a symptom of some other problem. That's why I recommended the huge water change and a salt bath may kill off any bad bacterial problem.

It does appear to be fairly early though so there's always hope. :good:

That's what I meant...fish medicine, not for her to go marching into a pharmacy demanding their strongest penicillin :p

Thanks guys I don't hold out much hope because I can never seen to treat dropsy - I have added melafix although I don't suppose it will do anything... and aquarium salt? I thought I read somewhere it was bad for treating dropsy?

And yes I'm in the UK, I shall have to go to the LFS and see what I can find...

Any opinions on Melafix? Will it help or not? I, personally, think it is magic in a bottle... Oscar is a tail biter, I have tried everything to stop him but he won't stop! I use the melafix to help it heal, it literally works overnight to heal tails

DON'T USE MELAFIX, PIMAFIX, OR BETTAFIX

The tea tree oil damages the labyrinth organ and the betta will drown

So I decided it would be best to do a water change now rather than tomorrow. I changed 90% of his water and added the correct amount of salt.

When I go to the LFS, what shall I get? Keep in mind I'm in the UK..

Thanks for all of your input, you've made me feel so much better, like I can possibly save him.

I don't want to give you any false hope but it still looks like you caught it early. I've read many places that salt is good to treat Dropsy, just try a Google search...........

Again, Dropsy is just a symptom of something else wrong, whether it's bacterial or fungal or whatever. That's why I wouldn't just start throwing meds at it since we can't be certain what the real problem is. That's why I rec. aquarium salt. I'm sorry, I know nothing about Melafix, Primafix, etc., but I do understand that they're for specific problems & we can't be sure what those problems are, hence why I still rec. salt. Separately if the fish is in a community tank, or just dose the tank if he's a loner.
