Devastated!

My Honey Gourami died last night, found him laying on the sand on his side. It's similar to the way my Powder Blue Dwarf & another Honey Gourami died. Fish were all normal then one day the fish doesn't eat with the others. Closer inspection shows the fish is bloated around the front below the gills. Within 24 hours fish is dead. All 3 died in this same manner in the same tank, months apart. On all three occasions no other fish in the tank shows any symptoms whatsoever. Ammonia & nitrite tested at zero, nitrate at 30-40 before the water change whichh is why I did a larger 60-65% rather than the usual 25-30%.

I had always thought that this fish was a Golden Honey Gourami - Trichogaster (Colisa) Chuna. Now I'm convinced it was a Sunset Thicklipped Gourami - Trichogaster (Colisa) Labiosa due to it's size, very pointed dorsal fin & very thick lips. Honey Gouramis never get bigger than 2-2.5 inches long. This guy was every bit of 3 full inches & still growing.

I'd be interested in anyone's conclusions related to this and I'm posting another thread in the Tropical Discussion to see if anyone has any ideas. I won't put another Gourami of any type back in that tank until I know what this disease/virus is.

RIP King Bully, you were a tough mofo............. :rip:
R.I.P. beautiful fishy.
:(
Hope it's not the gourami disease.

Sorry dude.. Lots of death up here in Hey Lovelies!!! these last few days..

Thanks Hambone.

Thanks Fishblast, I don't believe that Dwarf Gourami disease effects any other species other than Dwarf Gouramis in particular. Then again, I'm not a scientist...........

I took those pics after he died to show you that his fins weren't rotting, that's just a pattern on the ends of his dorsal & vent fins.

I don't know, I hope not.
Maybe it was just an error of his digestive system or maybe he had a tumor or something. At least he had a nice life till then.

My anubias is growing faster than expected.

Hey lovelies!!!

Big doings today.. Got the 37 gallon done with a water change.. Did aboot a 65% change...

On my smallest tank I removed my guppys and cats, setting that up as a fry and micro skrimp tank..

Taking a break to hang with my brothers, then it's off to make my moving bed filter for my fry tank..

Hey Hammy, what's a moving bed filter? What stock do you have planned for the new tank?

I ordered my new Rena Filstar XP2 from amazon yesterdiddy....should be here by the end of next week! No more trying to keep a HOB filter quiet.

If you did free super saver shipping should be here by the end of this week since there's an amazon marketplace in Georgia, unless you ordered something to go with it ;)

Nope, and it was free super saver shipping. They said as early as this Thursday or late as Tuesday the following week. I cleaned the living you know what outta the HOB filter this morning and now it's quiet but for how long? I have a double sock over the inlet that got very clogged up, since last night's water change so I figured might as well do another WC while I was at it.

Hey Lovelies!
Sorry about King Bully, Ruskull. :rip:
Weird how a death in the tank changes the dynamics. Since Miquel died mine is boring for some reason. He wasn't even the most active fish.
Busy times here. We have family visiting which is lovely but it's tiring. Lots of nights out and such. I need a lotto win at this stage. Or so I has heard.....
Roll on guppy time....
