The Horror Betta's Life!

That's horrible.

Funnily enough, I never see betta's kept like this. I hardly ever see them kept in cups at all, to be honest. Only one shop I've seen them being in "cups" but they look about a gallon, and the water is changed regularly. The only other place that doesn't keep them in tanks, is a place I love to go to - they are in large vases at the front of the tanks where the heater bit is, so warmth! They have room to swim, so no problems.

It was in Armley near leeds ish.
And yea I know about Paws they also sell "Fruit Salad Tetra" basicaly dyed tetra.
Theres a shop in huddersfield that if you ask them they will "Adjust the colour" of any fish you buy, baring afew that can't be coloured.
Ya have to ask for it doing tho....

somone told me about it and at first I didn't believe it so went to check and yes they do if you ask.....

I didn't get anything done I won't buy anything from them but I bet some ppl do.

Update:

Inspector went in at 9:30am this morning.
The shop is now closed til further notice.
Apprently there reptiles were been illtreat too!

They have to pass another inspection in 1 months time and until then they stay closed.
Paperwork going through.

So they have a month to get there act together.

I don't believe someone who has an attitude like that to their business (IE keeping animals in disgusting conditions like that-it most likely wasn't just the bettas, as he did actually say) shouldn't be allowed to stay open. My dad owns his own restaurant and that will be mine when he retires. If he gave you and several other people food poisoning from poorly prepared food he would have to have an inspection if you complained and if they found anything dodgy, they would close him down aswell. The fact is that they wouldn't have closed him down if he wasn't doing anything wrong!

The shop broke the law in regards to how they kept the animals. They are required by law to adhere to minimum standards or risk losing their licence. The laws need to exist to protect animals. The shop chose to breach these laws and are now facing the consequences. It doesn't necessarily mean they will go out of business either. I admit that a month's lost income will hurt the business, but if they get their act together they can reopen as a better store and attract more business as a result. You can't blame the person who reported them, you have to blame the person who chose to keep the bettas like that and mis-treat the reptiles.

You would be saying different if it was you that was treated wrongly. If you went to a hotel and the room was small, dirty and full of bugs, i bet you would complain about it, you would want better. Well unfortunatly these fish can't talk for themseves they just suffer and die.

Yes i feel sorry for the staff in a way, but the owner deserved it and yes i hope it does hit hard. At least that way perhaps he will not make any more helpless creatures suffer.

You would have been better to keep that opinion to yourself especially on here!

Sorry i did see that, i was just so mad at that comment. Who in there right mind would say that on here to people that clearly love fish, i mean duh!

The sad thing is that over here I haven't seen a LFS have their bettas in containers any larger than that.

Petsmart is the worst for this I think. They have small plastic jars (much like the one posted but clear) and they stack them or put them out in the isles where all the supplies are sold They will stck the containers 4 high and in a large square. How may I ask are they supposed to feed them? Or clean the water? ANd how about the poor bettas in the middle of the stack surrounded with fish on all four sides and above and below him!

It's their own fault, I don't feel sorry for them at all. The owner could have treated the fish and reptiles correctly and the employees could have pushed the issue as well.

If you don't care about fish, why are you on this site?
